Crenguţa LEAUA specialized in international commercial law and particularly in international arbitration, in cases pending before several international arbitration institutions – ICSID, ICC Paris, VIAC Vienna, WIPO, various national arbitration centres, etc. She has been featured in “Who’s Who Legal” in the field of international arbitration in all issues, since 2007 and also as a Thought Leader (GAR, 2017).
She has worked extensively as an arbitrator in more than 130 cases, most of which were handled by the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the Court of International Commercial Arbitration attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, but also in ad hoc arbitration proceedings under UNCITRAL Rules. She is included on the lists of arbitrators of numerous arbitration centres, such as the Court of International Commercial Arbitration attached to the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Poland, Moldova, the Arbitration and Mediation Centre of the World International Property Organisation (WIPO), the International Arbitration Centre of the Federal Chamber for Economy of Austria (VIAC), the arbitration centres in Beijing (CIETAC), Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur.
She was a vice-president of the International Court of Arbitration – ICC Paris (2015-2018) and a member of the Court ( 2012-2014) and currently is a member of the ICC Commision on Arbitration. She is a past vice-president of the Court of International Commercial Arbitration attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania.
She holds a Ph.D. from the Bucharest University, a J.D. from Alexandru Ioan Cuza University (Iasi), a J.D. from Lucian Blaga University (Sibiu) and is an alumnus of the Future Leaders executive education program of Harvard University – John F. Kennedy School of Government.
She is an associate professor with the Academy of Economics in Bucharest (teaching Business Law and European Union Law) and external associate professor (Comparative International Arbitration Law and Arbitration in the Construction Field) in the International Arbitration master’s program of the Faculty of Law within the University of Bucharest. She was a visiting scholar at Columbia Law School (New York). She was invited for lectures at Science Po ( Paris), Columbia Law School (New York), Georgetown Law (Washington D.C.) and Washburn University (Kansas).
She has authored and co-authored four books and over 50 articles, studies and commentaries published in renowned law reviews, prevalently in the field of international commercial arbitration, business law and intellectual property law. She is one of the two editor of Arbitration in Romania. A practitioner’s Guide, the first monograph on arbitration in Romania, published by Kluwer International (2016). She was a member in several international research teams on various matters of comparative law, and acted as speaker in over 30 international conferences, on topics of arbitration and business law.
She is fluent in English and French, an intermediate-level user of Italian and a basic knowledge of German.
